Portfolio – College Art and Before

 In Portfolio

When I went to college, my goal was to become a 3D artist for video games. Here are a few examples of art pieces I made during college, as well as a personal project from high school. I am still an artist at heart, and creating art will always be a passion of mine.

This is a fictional underground power plant, created and rendered in 3ds Max. Industrial building have always intrigued me, especially power plants. I wanted to create an industrial scene with an organic component and an odd light source. The idea is that the power plant has some form of radiation, which is causing the mushrooms to grow extremely large and glow in the dark. My inspiration for the mushrooms came from the radiotrophic fungus found in Chernobyl.

Bust of a Strogg Soldier, created and rendered in Zbrush. Quake is one of my favorite childhood games. The combat was fast, the levels were well designed, and the gameplay was addictive. Dark and gritty art styles like Quake’s have always been a favorite of mine. I wanted to create the same type of art that was an inspiration to me growing up.

Bust of Pinhead, created and rendered in Zbrush. Clive Barker is awesome, and Hellraiser is one of my favorite works of his. Movie posters have always facinated me, so I decided to make one for this great movie. Since Pinhead is my favorite character in the series, his face on the poster was a no-brainer.

Bust of a Blue Collar Alien, created and rendered in Zbrush. This was my first finished piece in Zbrush. I wanted to make a character that was blob-like, but with a few hard edges. Therefore, I decided to make a blob like Alien, with glasses and a crisp collared shirt and tie. The inspiration came from Office Space, one of my favorite comedy movies.

These next four wallpapers were made when I was in high school. At the time I wanted to learn animation, so I started by posing existing game characters in interesting ways. The main character from Doom 3 is taking a selfie with the main character from Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil.

Here the Doom Guy is planning to ambush a Commando with some deft shotgun work. He doesn’t realize that he isn’t the only one planning an ambush.

After the ambush from the last Wallpaper, the Doom Guy has learned how to deal with sneaky Imps.

The Doom Guy has finally reached the epicenter of Hell. He must now face his final challenge, the Cyberdemon!
